Summer courses for percussion music in Northern Italy / Piemont

These two workshops will deal with a large spectrum of musical styles. We will engage with djembé music from West Africa as well as with various styles from Brazil and Cuba. We will play Malinke music on the djembé and bass drums, as is customary.

There are two groups of Brazilian grooves:
Cult music, i.e., the Candomblé on the one hand, and on the other batucada, which is samba as it is performed in Rio in orchestras with as many as 300 musicians.

As far as Cuba is concerned, we will explore traditional conga music.

We will concentrate on the following instruments: djembé, bass drums, congas, atabaques, zabumba, batucada instruments and berimbao.

The instruments will be put at your disposal, except for the congas. Whoever does not bring one along can borrow one for a fee of 15 € (please request when registering). You are free to bring instruments of your own.

The courses will take place in a beautifully refurbished farmhouse near Canelli in Piemont / Northern Italy in a large group room with a separate dining and recreation room. The Mediterranean is nearby. There is a beautiful natural lake for bathing with cliffs just a 25-minute drive away. If we want to, we can bake our own pizza in the old pizza oven installed in the house. If you wish, we can take one day off during the workshop to practice, relax and go bathing...

We will have a cook who will prepare natural-food meals with our practical assistance.
It is possible to arrive the evening before the courses begin. In this case, the additional overnight stay will cost 15 €.
